Policies and Process Review Service

Review your current SAM policies and processes and identify shortfalls that may present risks

Properly developed, communicated and implemented IT policies and procedures are necessary to ensure organisations mitigate their risks in relation to the way in which IT is used. In Australia, there are approximately 20 Laws and Acts that govern IT use. Without robust policies and procedures in place, employees can unknowingly expose the company to significant risks.

ITIL and the ISO SAM 19770-1 Standard recommends/specifies that control procedures are developed and documented for ensuring compliance with the policies, which include documentary evidence that these control procedures are being performed, and that corrective action is taken in the case of exceptions.

Smartpath SAM Services Review examines the existence and extent of current SAM procedures as well as reviewing the quality and completeness. The Policies and

Procedures Review and deliverables will include, and are not limited to:

  • Review of existing IT procedures
  • Review of existing software procurement and management practices
  • Workshop with key stakeholders confirming processes and exploring more efficient practices
  • Review and development of Acceptable Use policies
  • Comparison of processes to ISO SAM and ITIL best practice
  • Provision of a preliminary management report detailing the analysis undertaken and recommendations.

Microsoft Customer Self-Start Program

Microsoft has announced the launch of a new Customer Self-Start Program (CSSP) aimed at recognising and supporting customers who undertake SAM work proactively with an authorised SAM partner.

Smartpath SAM Services can help you with the rapid completion of this program and the achievement of Certification from Microsoft. Smartpath SAM Services is an Authorised SAM Partner and has been a Microsoft partner since the inception of the SAM program in Australia in 2003.

The Process

Step 1.

Once you have registered your organisation with Smartpath SAM Services, the development of the licensing position starts immediately.

Step 2.

Smartpath SAM Services investigates current Microsoft licensing agreements and undertakes an analysis of all purchases. The information is collated into an accurate profile of your licensing entitlement, including all entitlements under technology guarantees, upgrades and software assurance.

Step 3.

After completion of Step 2, your installed user base is identified and comparisons are drawn between the two data sets. The output is a report which identifies software that is owned and areas where there is evidence of both over and under-licensing.

Benefits include:

  • Microsoft recognition
  • Rapid completion
  • Managed process
